About our Music Studies

At our educational unit in Thornhill, you’ll find a nurturing environment to discover and accomplish your artistic interests. Currently, the only instrument we are using is the piano, but rest assured that other instruments will soon be added to the list. We are working with three age groups spreading from 3 to 99 years old: children, youth, and adults. The group someone is studying depends more on the aspirations and the purpose of learning than on age. If uncertain, we will gladly assist you in choosing. All our lessons are one-on-one, but we offer three distinct ways of progress:

  • llearning for pleasure, where the student has a choice of pieces to learn, discuss and agree with the teacher.
  • Preparing for RCM examination, where we strictly follow the RCM syllabus
  • Studying for the Teleki Music Studies (TMS) certificate, where we strictly follow TMS syllabus and at the end of the semester, there will be an examination by an independent panel.

An Introductory Class is available for those who wish to explore and discuss their goals.

Our students succeed in their personal goals and enjoy the pleasure of music-making.

Self-directed online lessons are coming soon!

LESSONS

CHILDREN LESSONS

For children, the main focus is on rhythm development and playing age-appropriate music. We introduce the very basics of music terminology, and music reading playfully, singing the songs together with their teacher, start to make them familiar with the instrument, tell stories about composers, artists, and the piano that are both understandable and entertaining for them, and install the love and magic of music-making that will enrich their lives. In this phase, parental involvement is helpful to a child's success through motivation, encouragement, and support.

YOUTH LESSONS

Youth lessons are presented in four stages: imitation, exploration, improvisation, and composition with each lesson building on the last. We use cross-cultural folk music and composed music of high artistic value for music selection. Lessons are supporting to master rhythm, to learn pitch, steady beat, tempo, and meter. Students naturally progress into sight reading and ear training. The sequence of activities moves from simple to complex, while focusing on building musicianship. Our goal is to build positive musical experiences and foster personal expression.

ADULT LESSONS

OOur adult program is populated by dedicated students from all walks of life! Whether it's to achieve a new personal goal or to reignite a musical passion, our program is here to support your journey of self-discovery. Any age and playing level can take up the piano; your first note will already be beautiful! The joy of music-making has no boundary, and your adventure shall bear no delay!

“You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.“ – C.S. Lewis
